Why Should I Consider VT4PRO™ With RNAi Technology?
April 9, 2024
For farmers prioritizing performance, VT4PRO™ with RNAi Technology offers our widest spectrum of protection against the corn pests that can devastate your fields. It’s the first product from Bayer to combine the three above-ground modes of action in Trecepta® Technology with two below-ground modes of action.
Our experts explain what makes VT4PRO Technology different and how it can benefit your operation.
How does VT4PRO with RNAi Technology work and what makes it different?
Kristin Schiff
Above ground, VT4PRO Technology protects against corn borer, fall armyworm, black cutworm, western bean cutworm and corn earworm.
Below ground, two modes of action are aimed at corn rootworm. This includes RNAi Technology, a mode of action that targets larvae by suppressing production of an essential protein.
What is RNAi Technology and how does it work?
Kristin Schiff
RNAi Technology is a really exciting piece that VT4PRO Technology brings. This mode of action stops production of an essential protein required for corn rootworm survival and controls corn rootworm to provide protection below ground.
Craig Schaal
RNAi Technology is a new mode of action specific to corn rootworm larvae, and it’s different in that it disrupts the messenger RNAi. It creates efficacy that is different from what our current trait packages or other traits in the marketplace have been able to do. We're excited about what this will mean for farmers as it's different from the modes of action that are currently available.
What are the high-level benefits of VT4PRO Technology?
Kristin Schiff
This trait brings peace of mind and high-level insect protection as well as increased standability from the corn rootworm protection. We’ve also seen a yield advantage and some significant profitability advantages.
Craig Schaal
Firstly, VT4PRO Technology carries the newest genetics from Bayer's corn breeding program. Secondly, we’re seeing really outstanding yield potential because of the combination of the trait package and strong genetics.
Are there any other benefits to consider?
Craig Schaal
VT4PRO Technology carries the glyphosate-tolerant trait, and so when farmers are looking for maximum weed control and they have some late-emerging weeds, glyphosate is an option.
This trait also delivers peace of mind with below-ground corn rootworm control under a rotated scenario, especially in areas where farmers are faced with extended diapause or soybean variant pressures.
