Soybean Seed Selection

Many factors should be considered when choosing soybean seed, such as management practices, environmental conditions and local trial evaluations. When it comes to planning soybean crop management, selecting and positioning multiple soybean seed varieties suited to specific conditions can help optimize performance of your soybean seeds. Evaluating your farm’s data with Climate FieldView can help inform your management decisions and fine-tune next season’s planning, ensuring you get the most out of every acre.

Trait Benefits and Weed Management

Choosing a high-yielding soybean trait package with both weed control and disease tolerance is key. Asgrow® brand XtendFlex® soybean seed not only provide a powerful combination of exclusive genetics and strong agronomic traits designed to promote excellent emergence, pod development, plant health and high-yield performance, but also allow for weed-management ease and flexibility.

Controlling weeds in soybeans has become more challenging due to herbicide resistance, tighter restrictions and difficult-to-control weeds. A multipronged approach that focuses more on a weed management strategy is required to help achieve consistent, long-term success. For no-till systems, starting with a fall burndown program is encouraged. With all herbicide programs, using pre- and post-emergent residuals can help reduce pressure on contact herbicide products. The key is to prevent as many weeds as possible from emerging and becoming competition to the crop.

Planting Early

Planting soybeans early extends the growing season, which can enhance photosynthetic activity and potentially boost yields. While early planting offers higher yield potential, it also increases the risk of diseases and pests that thrive in cool, wet soil conditions. Additionally, cold temperatures can delay germination and emergence, leaving soybeans in a vulnerable state for an extended period. If you’re considering early planting, it’s recommended to use a system that combines Asgrow germplasm with disease tolerance, along with Acceleron® Seed Applied Solutions fungicide and insecticide for sudden death syndrome (SDS), plus ILEVO® seed treatment. This combination of high-quality seed, strong genetics and effective seed treatments helps ensure a strong start to the season and supports higher yield potential.

Disease and Pests

Wet and cold conditions are common early in the season, and Acceleron Seed Applied Solutions seed treatment packages can help protect the yield potential of Asgrow soybeans from yield-robbing pests and disease.

Acceleron Seed Applied Solutions seed treatment provides broad-spectrum protection against seedling diseases, including Pythium, early-season Phytophthora, Rhizoctonia solani and Fusarium, with an exclusive combination of fungicides and more rapid and increased emergence of seedlings under certain cold conditions. SDS is a disease that can greatly diminish yield potential, but incorporating Acceleron Seed Applied Solutions with ILEVO can help manage the disease.

Promo Tools of Disease and Pests

Another devastating disease that thrives in wet soil conditions is white mold. If you have a history of this disease on your farm, choosing an Asgrow variety with improved tolerance can help protect yield potential. The Asgrow brand also has varieties with tolerance to other top yield-robbing soybean diseases, including Phytophthora, brown stem rot and iron deficiency chlorosis.

If you are fighting heavy soybean cyst nematode (SCN) pressure or detect their presence in your soil sampling, consider seed with the Peking resistance trait, a newer trait showing more resistance to SCN than PI 88788. Also consider ILEVO seed treatment, which offers protection from plant parasitic nematodes, including SCN, with additional protection against SDS.

Next-Generation Soybean Technology

The new Asgrow XtendFlex XF5 product class for 2025 has demonstrated impressive yield potential and strong agronomic characteristics. Designed to deliver consistent performance and high-yield potential to maximize ROI, the XF5 product portfolio is the best from Asgrow brand’s advanced breeding program and extensive testing network. The 2024 XtendFlex soybean launch class had a 2.7 Bu/A advantage vs. Enlist E3® soybeans.* Asgrow XtendFlex products are available across all seven maturity zones.
