Wheat grain samples were submitted by the 2023 national yield winners and tested for end-use quality. A panel of industry experts evaluated the results and selected the quality award winners.

WestBred® Wheat varieties earned three quality winners in the Hard Red Spring category and one placement in the Hard Red Winter category:

Hard Red Spring

  • Brad Disrud, Rolla, North Dakota, with WB9590 and a yield of 129.98Bu/A
  • John Wesolowski, Warren, Minnesota, with WB9590 and a yield of 126.09 Bu/A
  • Devan Laufer, Mott, North Dakota, with WB9719 and a yield of 109.8 Bu/A

Hard Red Winter

  • Chris Gross, Reardan, Washington, with KELDIN and a yield of 211.98 Bu/A

At the state level, 27 of the winning farms planted WestBred. There were 17 first-place winning farms that planted WestBred Wheat.

2024 WestBred® Wheat Exclusive Seed Supplier Promotion:

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE ODDS OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. Open only to seed suppliers who distribute WestBred brand products. Suppliers are automatically entered. Winning suppliers determined based on growers entered with completed harvest reports in the 2023 National Wheat Yield Contest. Prize: 4-day/3-night trip for 2 to the 2025 Commodity Classic in Denver, Colorado; includes round trip coach air transportation for 2 people from major U.S. airport nearest winner's home - winner and guest must travel from one departure location and on the same itinerary, standard hotel accommodations for 3 nights (double occupancy), and ground transportation to and from hotel/airport in Denver. Expenses not specified (flight/travel insurance, baggage fees, taxes, meals, personal expenses) are the sole responsibility of winner. Prize is non-transferable. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Open to legal U.S. residents who enter, or will enter, at least 1 valid entry in the National Wheat Foundation’s 2025 National Wheat Yield Contest (NWYC) using WestBred® Wheat brand seeds. Prize trip for national winners of the NWYC includes 4-day/3-night trip for 1 guest to Denver, Colorado including round-trip coach air transportation for 1 from a major airport nearest guest’s home to Denver, ground transportation to/from the airport while in Denver, and 2025 Commodity Classic conference fees. Approximate retail value: $1,250, subject to fluctuations in airfare and location of departure. All other expenses (flight/travel insurance, accommodations, meals, personal expenses) are the sole responsibility of traveler.
