Green Bay School Receives $5,000 Grant from Bayer CropScience

March 8, 2015

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (March 9, 2015)Bay Port High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin received a $5,000 grant from Bayer CropScience through the Company’s Thankful4Ag initiative. Bayer and Feeding America® sponsored Thankful4Ag, an initiative that provided 200,000 meals to food-insecure families over the holiday season.

“We are thrilled to receive this award,” said Michael Frieder, Principal at Bay Port High School. “Coming from Wisconsin, we know how hard our nation’s farmers work to provide food for our country and the world. We are glad to have honored our farmers by donating to those in need this holiday season through the Thankful4Ag program.”

The grant money is planned to be used on 1-3 hydroponic systems, lighting accessories and nutrients. The hydroponic systems grow produce from lettuce to strawberries without soil. Additional funds may be contributed to repair a fence by the garden to keep out wildlife and send FFA members to leadership conferences.

“At Bayer, we have a longstanding commitment to promoting science education through our Making Science Make Sense® company initiative and support of the National FFA,” said Beth Roden, Bayer CropScience head of communications. “Bay Port High School is a deserving recipient of the $5,000 Thankful4Ag grant because of its demonstrated commitment to helping the nation’s hungry and celebration of the vital role that agriculture plays in our society.”

Each time a student or teacher created and shared a digital meal using #T4AgGrant and #Thankful4Ag on www.Thankful4Ag.com, the school was entered to win, and Bayer helped provide 10 meals to Feeding America. The more students that tweeted or posted, the better the school’s chances were and the more meals donated. Thanks to participation from Bay Port senior, Julia Stanzel, the school was randomly selected out of nearly 300 teachers and students nationwide who shared a digital meal.
