Leading the Way in Work-Life Balance 5 Straight Years: Bayer CropScience Wins 2014 Carolina Parent Family-Friendly 50 Award
September 13, 2014
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (Sept. 14, 2014) – For a fifth consecutive year, Bayer CropScience, a national hub for innovative research located in Research Triangle Park, has been selected by Carolina Parent for a 2014 Family-Friendly 50 Award, which recognizes 50 companies and organizations across North Carolina for initiatives to integrate a positive family environment into workplace culture. Carolina Parent chose Bayer CropScience due to the company’s longstanding commitment to employee work-life balance and a wide range of benefits for employees and their families that include:
- a flexible workweek;
- the B-Well online health portal;
- an on-site doctor;
- tuition reimbursements;
- career transition programs for spouses and more.
“Families and strong communities have been at the heart of agriculture for generations. Bayer CropScience takes seriously its role to continue that legacy and to be a part of the communities where we live, work and play,” said Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience LP.
In addition, the company offers a Mothers at Work program, designed to decrease physical, mental and emotional stress while allowing mothers to continue to work, reducing financial burdens on their families.
“We are very proud to be a company that values all of our employees and their contributions to both their families and the communities we serve,” said Blome. “By providing benefits that care for an employee’s overall health and wellbeing, we can help to ensure that we are cultivating great families and strong leaders. It is not only possible, but incredibly necessary, to assist employees in achieving a positive work-life balance in order to be a great employer.”
Bayer CropScience’s Women’s Leadership Initiative was created to provide additional avenues for mentorship and advancement for women, as well as fostering a diverse workforce. The initiative focuses on identifying opportunities for growth, particularly in leadership development for women. Bayer CropScience also encourages leadership growth by giving each employee up to 16 hours of paid time off per year for participation in volunteer opportunities, such as those locally with:
• Passage Home;
• the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina;
• Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen;
• the Queen’s Foundation; and
• the United Way of the Greater Triangle.
Each year, the company also hosts a “Bring Your Child to Work Day,” family outings and a children’s holiday party.
“Our employees are at the heart of what we have been able to accomplish as a company, and they are the reason for Bayer CropScience’s success in promoting our mission of ‘Science: For A Better Life,’” said Blome. “By promoting a sustainable work-life balance, we are able to provide our employees with the tools necessary to achieve their goals both personally and professionally, and to help them leave a better world for not only our customers, but their children as well. It is certainly an honor to be recognized by Carolina Parent, and we will strive to continue to promote a family-friendly atmosphere within Bayer CropScience.”
About the Family-Friendly 50 Award:
Honored companies were nominated and provided information about benefits and programs via surveys and supporting testimonials. Senior associate directors from the undergraduate and graduate business programs at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Kenan-Flager Business School reviewed this information, and the final list of honorees was determined in partnership with the business school.
